Initializer
Each initializer generates an initial composition (choosing tools, colors, and placement) and renders it over a gradient. The button in the corner of the canvas generates another composition with a fresh palette.
Gradient and scatter
open full size ↗A gradient serves as the backdrop for strokes drawn with randomly selected tools and palette colors. The layout is also chosen at random from several options, so the strokes aren't always scattered freely. These options include a free scatter of one to four strokes; the same shape repeated on a grid, with a different tool for each; a non-overlapping arrangement; one shape in each quadrant; random straight lines; strokes tracing geometric shapes (sine waves, zigzags, spirals, circles, or lines); a single stroke in the center; or three strokes at the vertices of an equilateral triangle.
Stroke patterns
open full size ↗A randomly selected stroke tool draws a fine-line pattern over the paper, alternating between two palette colors. The pattern can be stripes at a random angle, a grid, or rows of waves. There is a 50% chance that a second pattern will be drawn over the first.
Split colors
open full size ↗A random straight line divides the canvas. Each resulting region has a 50% chance of being divided again, with the process repeating for a few levels (like fractal). Each region is filled with a solid palette color, then one to four random strokes are drawn on top.
Big fills
open full size ↗Randomly selected fill tools create one to three very large fills. Each fill's spine extends from a point beyond one edge into the opposite half of the canvas. This ensures that the fill crosses the midline, though it does not necessarily cover the center.
